Abstract
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of closed K-wire reduction of displaced supracondylar region fracture of humerus in children using image intensifier. Study Design: Descriptive case series. Place and Duration Of Study: Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Hospital, Azra Naheed Medical College, Lahore Ten month from 01-11-2018 to 30-08-2019 Material and Methods: 60 Patients selected by non-probability sampling with type III Gartland supracondylar fracture of humerus. After stabilizing the patients were managed with closed fracture reduction and percutaneous pinning using image intensifier and discharged when stable. Results: Out of 60 patients, 78.3% were male and 21.7% females and majority of children (36.7%) were of 5-7 years age. Left humerus was fractured in 63.3% of patients. All fractures were of extension type (100%). commonest mode of injury (40%) was fall during play. Conclusion: Closed reduction & pinning under image intensifier is an effective treatment modality of displaced supracondylar fracture of humerus in children which provides stable fixation.
