Abstract
This study aims to elucidate the fundamentals of Sufism through an analysis of concise sayings as presented in the work "Fatḥ al-Bayān Li Ḥuṣūl al-Naṣr Wa al-Fatḥ Wa al-Amān" by ʿAbd al-Ḥayy al-Ṣājilī al-Urdanawī. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to explore the manner in which al-Ṣājilī encapsulates the essence of Sufi thought and practice within brief yet profound statements. The study delves into the historical and theological context of the text, highlighting its significance in the broader landscape of Islamic mysticism. The analysis focuses on key themes such as the nature of the divine, the path to spiritual realisation, the importance of love and devotion, and the role of the spiritual master. By examining these themes, the study sheds light on the ways in which al-Ṣājilī conveys complex Sufi concepts in an accessible manner, making them understandable and relatable to a wider audience. Furthermore, the research explores the pedagogical implications of using concise sayings in the teaching of Sufism, emphasising the potential for such an approach to facilitate a deeper engagement with the spiritual dimensions of Islam. The findings of this study contribute to the ongoing discourse on the interpretation and transmission of Sufi teachings, offering insights into the effectiveness of succinct expressions in capturing the essence of mystical experience. By unravelling the layers of meaning embedded in al-Ṣājilī's sayings, this research highlights the enduring relevance of Sufi wisdom in contemporary spiritual discourse.
