Abstract
This article is an Urdu rendition, with notes, of a short writing of Charles Sanders Peirce on the definition and function of a University. Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914) is considered as one of the most original, diverse, and prolific scientific philosophers of America. He produced a lot of original works in the field of natural sciences, logic, mathematics, and theology as well. This short article-the Definition and Function of University- is actually derived from three different sources and integrated under this title. It appeared in: Charles S. Peirce: Selected Writings (Values in a Universe of Chance) edited with an introduction and notes by Philip P. Wiener, Dover Publication, New York, 1966. Although, Charles Peirce defined the term University and its function in the context of American University System in the nineteenth century. But, his ideas in this regard, are still valid and relevant everywhere in the world. Our university system in Pakistan is emerging and growing rapidly. We need to consider his ideas, so that we may get light from him in order to avoid the mista kes which already been made by the other leading nations
