Abstract
This article includes the edited text of the first chapter of a
rare unpublished manuscript of the nineteenth century. The
manuscript is a collection of biographical notes of the Urdu
poets of Lucknow written by Abdul Ghafūr Nassākh, a
well-known scholar and poet of his time. It lies in the
Bodleian library Oxford, UK. The whole work includes
12chapters in total and in each chapter, the biographies of a
master poet and his pupils have been given. The first
chapter is about the renowned poet Mushafī and his pupils,
including Insha, Khalīq, Shahīdī, Zamīr, Zarīf, Ᾱqil, Maujī,
Havas and Garm. The text of the manuscript has been
edited and given in the contemporary script and spelling.
Notes and annotations have also been added to the text
along with a brief introduction
