Abstract
Rebellious altitudes have been a popular theme of the writers in the history of the Urdu Short Story. The writer in these stories dopier different kinds of resistant behavior which pave the way of a revolution or at least bring about a change in the thought patterns of the members of society. Short stoires written on such themes from a valuable part of the works in Urdu literature. Manto is known for his frank and straightforward style while delineating the ever existing evils in the society. He condemns capitalism, plutocracy and religious exploitation which escalate and intensify class discrimination. The stories based on sexual frustration and rage, political injustice and social imbalance are the best in Manto's literary works. Manto seems to be a staunch supporter of resistance, rejection and rebellion against the existing norms of the society. His characters seem to be struggling of a change in an otherwise suppressive or compromising society. Manto is at his best when describing life's better realities, the complex nature of the apparently lascivious and lustful attitudes. He unveils the hidden psychological realities with amazing dexterity and his tone remains rebellious most of the time. He discards any compromise with the hypocritical trends in the society and puts aside all kinds of reluctance while putting them into words.
