Abstract
This topic has been under discussion that Jews and Christians are non-Muslims or they are just considered People of Book (Aihle-e-Kitab). Most of the Islamic scholars of the world are of the view that Jews and Christians come in the category of non-believers but a section of Muslim ummah argues that in the light of the Holy Quran, Jews and Christians are called People of Book and they are not non-Muslims. They can only be termed as People of Book. The Holy Quran makes mention of the People of Book forty one times and every time it explains non-Muslims and People of Book separately. From this point of view, it becomes quite clear that non-Muslims and People of Book are entirely two different religious terms/faiths. Moreover, some Jews and Christians have preached the oneness of Allah Almighty. However, Muslim scholars and religious experts should treat them as People of Book rather than the Jews and Christians so that a vast gulf of differences may be bridged for humanity..
