Abstract
Khushal Khan Khattak the Afghan warrior poet had a multidimensional
personality. He possessed all the qualities of a good leader. He was a warrior,
poet, scholar, the ruler of his tribe, prose writer, the modifier of a writing style
known as Zanzeeri, a hunter and a Sufi at the same time. Besides poetry and
prose writings, Khusal Khattak translated various books from Arabic and
Persian to Pashto, thus becoming the first ever translator of literary works in
Pashto Language. He was a ruler by nature and he spent a pretty good span of
his life at Mughal Darbar. So he knew the abilities, capabilities, qualities and
secrets of the best ruler. He highlighted these prerequisites for a best ruler in his
book Dastar Nama. The said book has forty chapters; among them twenty are
about the talents, to be possessed by a person who is likely to deserve keeping
the Dastar, the turban on his head. And then twenty good qualities which are
mandatory for a man deserving the Dastar. The said book was translated into
Urdu by a renowned poet and scholar Professor Khatir Ghaznavi. This paper is a
brief account of the said work of translation.
