Abstract
The essays "Muqaddima Sher o Shairi" and "Sher ul-Ajam" that were published in Nerang e Khayal can be taken as exemplars of a Western attack on the Eastern world. Even though Hali and Shibli have benefitted from the views of eastern writers and thinkers in these works, they have not applied these ideas or made use of them in analysing the new forms and attitudes that were then emerging in literature. In this article, the researcher argues that Aziz Hamid Madani has contributed to the field of literary criticism by drawing on both the eastern as well as the western tradition. The researcher argues that Aziz Hamid Madani has shown the attitude of dismissing classical works that is common among new age writers as being contradictory in nature. The researcher believes that Aziz Hamid Madani, while accepting the western critical tradition as a valid source of knowledge, has still not become westernised or been influenced to the point of dismissing the traditions that are one's own. The researcher would like to prove in this article that Aziz Hamid Madani, despite having extensively studied these modern theories, has managed to bring the modern and classical trends together in a way that beautifully combines them and shows their connections and continuities
