Abstract
Mosque is one of the significant metaphors of Urdu poetry and poets have
expressed their social and religious views through this. Iqbal has transformed his
various philosophical ideas in poetical form in his poem "Masjid-e-Qurtaba".
Sorrow over spiritual decline in modern age is a main theme of modern Urdu
poem and poets have shown their feelings of this sorrow through the images of
Mosques. An attitude of satire on religious establishment can also be observed
in those poems in which poets have used the metaphor of the mosque.
