Abstract
The bases of human societies are as many as there are societies in the world. An
agricultural society, like ours usually determine its social hierarchy on racial
basis. The social determinants of a society shape the world view of its people.
The writer also gets impressions from these determinants. Muhammad Ilyas
while presenting the characters in his novels uses the racial variable to determine
their traits. His novel Barish is analysed in this article.
