Abstract
To the twenty first century readers, novel provides the most scope for
appreciation of not only the contemporary but also something more distant,
shrouded in the past. Though novel is relatively a new genre in Urdu
literature, like literature in other languages, novel in this day and age, is
arguably the most potent and comprehensive forms of expression. Urdu
literature can boast of several novels that have been trendsetters. Kai Chand
Thay Sar-e- Aasman by Shamsur Rahman Faruqi is one of such novels. In
this article, the writer has explored the various dimensions of this novel.
The technique used by Faruqi has been closely examined. Specially the
literary devices used like the plot, dialogue, description, characterization,
language and locale all have been analyzed to ascertain the literary status of
the said work. This paper looks at the way this novel and its dimensions do
justice to both thematic unity and the time and milieu in which it has been
written.
