Dr. Wazeer Agha and tradition of pure literature
Abstract
Dr. Wazir Agha is one of those rare persons who spent
his entire life in the pursuit of his literary ideas. Literature
for him was not a profession to earn livelihood but a way
of life. He had his admirers as well as detractors and his
life and works were mired in controversies with
progressive writers particularly Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi.
He had his differences with Dr. Saleem Akhtar as well.
But now after his death it is important that we try to
assess his work, particularly his critical ideas
dispassionately. This research paper is an effort in this
direction and evaluates his literary theory in the context
of his times and Urdu Literary History.
