Changing of narrator and concept of time in Qabz-e-Zamaan
Abstract
"In this global era, A literary piece of art propagates around the
globe immediately after its publishing in any corner of the world.
This is due to speedy translation and quick publishing with the
use of modern gadgets. So the techniques used in the famous
literary work anywhere in the world recognized and replicated
elsewhere. This phenomenon shoes its influences on modern
Urdu literature. Particularly Urdu fiction writers of twenty first
century made use of the universal style's techniques in their
writings. The best example of this phenomenon in modern Urdu
novel is Qabz-e zaman(2014) by Shamsurrahman Faruqi(1935-).
In this research article I infer that he used modern narrative
techniques in his novel Qabz-e zaman from which magic realism
is more prominent and exclusive. Shamsurrahman Faruqi is
found of great lost GANAGA JAMNI civilization of Mughal
sultanate of Dehli(1526-1857). Technically it is very necessary
that to depict the language and cultural development the narrator
must be changed to show the long span of history of sub
continent. So he looks to a Sufism's term 'Qabz-e zaman', which
can be used as a tool in magic realism technique. His narrator
Gul Muhammad travels in different era of sub continent history,
due to Sufism term 'Qabz-e zaman'. He also used the old folk
lore, oral literature and old text in this novel as well. These
elements are very essential for the magic realistic technique in
the fiction.
