Letters of miss Chouhdri Afzal Haq
Abstract
Ch Afzal Haq's( 1891---1942) name is well-known in the history
of Urdu prose. There are many books on his credit, some of
which are Zindagi, Deen e Islam, Mahboob e Khuda, Jawahirat,
Azadi e Hind and Mera Afsana. His book, Zindagi, is a paragon
of imaginative travelogues like Dante's Divine Comedy, Ibn
Arabi's Fatoohat e Makkiyah and Iqbal's Javid Nama. Along with
this, he served the nation as a political leader and member
legislative assembly Punjab. He also edited some newspapers of
his time. In this article, unpublished letters of his wife Hamida
Baigum (d: 22 April 1988), commonly known as Buwa Ji, are
being produced. These letters narrate the story of a wife, loyal to
the soul of her deceased husband. An old lady, devoid of
sources, is trying to reproduce the forgotten works of her late
beloved partner with the help of a young writer (i.e the author),
whom she has declared her son. These are letters - letters, which
are now a form of communication that we have lost-from a loving
mother, thus being a profound representation of the Oriental
culture.
