Abstract
This article is based on election monitoring by the authors during the 2013 General
Elections in Pakistan in the national assembly constituency of NA 145 and the
corresponding provincial assembly seat of PP 186. The paper identifies several lacunasin
the electoral process which prevents the smooth conduct of elections in Pakistan. The article
argues that the processes of election day need to be reformed before an overhaul of the
election system is contemplated in the country.
