Abstract
The mechanism of the degradation of the Reactive Red 239 and Reactive Blue 19 by Fentonreagent was studied by advanced oxidation process in aqueous medium. The spectroscopictechnique was adopted for the measurements of dye concentration. Moreover they weredetermined at 540 nm and 590 nm,respectively. Kinetics of the reaction was studied under theeffect of concentration of reactive dyes, concentration of oxidant were followed under pseudofirst order condition and found to influence the catalytic mechanism. The pH of the medium, vibrant response of several cations and anions and influence of ionic strength on the reactionkinetics were also monitored. Physical evidences for the degradation and mineralization of thedyes were evaluated by Lime water test, Ring Test andTLC test also confirmed the degradation ofdye.Inhibitory effects of dyes were observed by CO3-, HCO3-, HPO42-, Cl-, I-Al3+and Na+.Thermodynamic activation parameters in the oxidation reaction were studied and mode ofmechanism was suggested on the basic of these parameters. This study explored the safe and ecofriendly degradation ofthe textile dyes under Pseudo first order rate constant. It was observed thatFenton assisted degradation of the dyes under controlled conditions was found to befavorable forthe treatment of textile wastewater. Moreover compared to other chemical methodsit is effectiveand harmless to the environment
