Rold of Modern Pashto Poetry for Peace in the Region

Literature in general and poetry in particular usually depicts
the various aspects of society and social life and of course play a
vital role in peace building and harmony۔ That’s why literature may
be considered a true mirror of society۔ Irrespective of that the
Pashtuns are mostly introduced as a martial nation but their poetry
and literature played a very significant role to make the society more
peaceful since very long۔ A number of specimens from Pashto poetry
can be picked to show the peace loving nature of the Pashtuns۔ In
this paper specifically the Pashto modern poetry has been focused
to reflect the poetic response of the modern Pashtun poets to the
prevailing scenario of war on terror in Pashtun belt and
Afghanistan as well۔ A few couplets have been selected from the
poetry of different Pashtun regions to portray the soft image of the
Pashtuns and also addressed the role of Pashtun code of life which
is reflective of peace and harmony in Pashtun society۔ The paper in
particular deals with the modern Pashto poetry of 20th Century but
it depicts the collective peace-loving nature of the Pashtun nation۔
