Shyness has been in focus of psychological research for many years. Mostly work has been done on adolescent shyness. This research has been conducted to identify and categorize .shy students and explore impact of shyness on shy students’ class participation. The sample if study was conveniently obtained from a private school in the city of Lahore. An 8"’ grade class was selected in order to collect data for this study. The sample was comprised of 23 boys and 25 girls. The students were grouped into three categorie.s — shy, moderate shy and non shy — on the basis of data that was obtained through Revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale. The data on student class participation was obtained through observation by the researchers. The Class Participation Rubrics & Guide, adopted from The Teaching Professor (2005), was used to record students’ class participation. This study has concluded that a large number of student.s were either .shy or moderate shy amongst the sample and there were more females students who were categorized either shy or moderate shy as compared to male students. It is further concluded that the shy students were unable to fully participate in the class. The shy students were less prepared for the class, hcid limited interaction with the peers, little class participation, limited contribution to the class and group dynamics.
