Implementation of Urdu as Official Language: Importance, Necessity، Problems and Possibilities
Abstract
As well as being the identity of any nation, language is also the
guarantor of its development. Whenever a nation comes into being, it
also considers language to protect its survival. The promotion and
implementation of the language which declares to be the national
language are among its primary objectives. When Pakistan came in to
being, Urdu language got the status of national language and it also
got constitutional status but even after many decades, the obstacles in
the way of this language could not be overcome. With the passage of
time, the issue of implementation of Urdu remained unresolved and
no significant form of its implementation came to light. In this
context, it is necessary to review the obstacles and problems in the
way of Urdu language and in the light of this review, the possibility
of implementation of Urdu should be brought to the fore. The
purpose of this article is to identify the problems of implementation
of Urdu language and to highlight the possibilities of its
implementation. The questionnaire has been used to achieve this goal.
In particular, questionnaires have been filled out from science
students, lawyers and office employees and conclusions have been
drawn in this light with help of SPSS.
