The rise and fall of Detective Literature in Sindhi Language
Abstract
Detective Literature has big importance in the world literature. And
Detective Fiction has more importance than to many other fields of
literature.Detective Fiction is actually a sub -genre of crime fiction
and mystery fiction in which an investigator or a detective—either
professional, amateur or retired—investigates a crime, often murder. The
detective genre began around the same time as speculative fiction and
other genre fiction in the mid-nineteenth century and has remained
extremely popular, particularly in novels. Some of the most famous heroes
of detective fiction include C. Auguste Dupin, Sherlock Holmes, and
Hercule Poirot. Juvenile stories featuring The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew,
and The Boxcar Children have also remained in print for several decades.
The British Period occupies very important place in the history of
Sindh. It was renaissance of Sindhi Literature, when a number new literary
branches included into Sindhi language, especially fiction writing. Hence,
Novel, drama, Short Story became part of Sindhi literature in British Period.
During this period, Detective Literature into Sindhi was at is zenith and a
number of magazines, newspapers, publishers were engaged in printing
dramas, novels and stories. Detective Literature was source of butter and
bread for the writers. Renowned writers like Mirza Qaleech Baig, Bherumal,
Munshi Khushram, Nanikram Durmdas and others were also part and parcel
of detective literature in Sindhi.
However, the Detective Literature in Sindhi lost its importance after
independence and Movement of Nationalism in Literature during One Unit
completely kicked out Detective Literature from Sindhi. Only, Muhammad
Bux Johar and a few others tried their level best to survive this genre of
literature. It is need of time to revive Detective Literature into Sindhi on
urgent basis and in this regard the role of Government and private Literary
Institutions is very important.
