Folk poet Ghulam Muhammad Mangi Musafir: life and his poetry
Abstract
Sindhi folk literature is very rich and the base of all kinds of prose
and poetry forms. It was collected and compiled on a large scale by a team
under the supervision of noted scholar Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Khan Baloch in
1957-58 under the folklore scheme of Sindhi Adabi Board.
There are many folk story tellers and poets in Sindh, whose
creations are in dire need of collection and compilation. They are common,
less literate people who cannot approach the printing press and can not
afford the expenses either. Ghulam Muhammad Mangi is one of them. He
belongs to Amrot Sharif, District Shikarpur. He has performed on Radio and
Television, and is also associated with the organization of folk storytellers
and folk poets, namely Sindh Sughar Lok Adab Tanzeem (SLAT) Pakistan.
This is the first ever comprehensive article about him.
