Abstract
Islam means a belief in the total submission to Allah Almighty and this is the only source of success, here and in hereafter. Islam gives respect and esteem to every human being and does not allow one to keep other human fellow as slave. It stresses on its believers to free the humanity from the slavery and clutches of other human beings and to invite and facilitate them to the slavery of their real Master and Creator. To be an obedient servant of Allah Almighty is the real and basic theme of Islam. Many verses of the Holy Quran and sayings of the Holy Prophet (SAW) convey and explain this message. Despite all this, even then Islam did not eradicate the concept of slavery; rather it fixed and determined the rights of slaves and prisoners. This idea confuses many those, who have only superficial knowledge of Islam. The fact is that the concept of slavery in Islam is a sound proof of its being a real and divine religion with eternal and everlasting teachings, provided it is studied in depth and impartially. The given article argues this point in the light of Quran, Hadith and life of the Holy Prophet (SAW), which will be a valuable addition in the knowledge of readers.
