Abstract
All great poets of the world express the love for their native people
and their motherland. Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, the greatest poet of Sindhi
language, is no different. His poetry is based on observations, study and
wisdom. He travelled continuously for 3 years to different areas of
present day Sindh, Balochistan and India. He loved each and every thing
about his motherland. Almost all the characters in his poetry belong to
Sindh. His heroines and heroes, including Marui, Moomal, Noori, Suhni,
Sasui, Jam Jakhro, etc. all are from Sindh.
Despite being from a royal Sayed family, he mostly used his poetic
name Abdul Latif. He often accompanied people belonging to the lower
classes of the society including Mirasi, labourers, farmers and fishermen.
Common people called him Bhitai due to his affection towards his
motherland. In this paper, the concept of motherland in the poetry oShah Abdul Latif Bhitai
