Abstract
OF DRAMAS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Abstract William Shakespeare (1564–1616) was great English poet, playwright and actor, widely regarded as both the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately sonnets,two long poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. He is called writer of every age because he has left his influence on every literary language in every age and movement. As soon as Sindhi people learnt English, they began to read world literature through English language. Likewise, Shakespeare also became favorite writer among Sindhi writers and elites. First ever Dramatic Society was established at Sindh Arts College (later D.J College) in 1894 but Bombay Dramatic Companies were coming to Sindh to play stage dramas since 1877. From 19th century to onwards Shakespearean influence is evident on Sindhi literature, writers like Mirza Qaleech Baig, Jethmal Pursram, Bherumal Maharchand, Usman Ansari and many others translated plays of Shakespeare. But Mirza Qaleech Baig is known as “Shakespeare of Sindhi Literature”, as he translated number dramas into Sindhi but his way of translation was different. He transliterated / adapted them into Sindhi atmosphere with Sindhi characters. Mirza Qaleech Baig had already written 465 books in Sindhi but his work on Shakespeare is prominent, which also paved way for new learners in the filed of drama. After independence, some more plays have been translated into Sindhi, which prove that impact of Shakespearean Drama on Sindhi, which was started from 19th Century, is still continuing in 21st century. ول ئروھ [ ] 35 This article is an attempt to highlight impact of Shakespeare Drama on Sindhi Literature through translations and imitating his way of writing dialogue, depicting society and following dramatic unities in proper manner
