Abstract
Objective: To compare the mean postoperative narcotic analgesia in patients undergoing cesarean section with and without bupivacaine infiltration Methodology: Its a randomized controlled trial conducted in Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, Fatima Memorial Hospital, Lahore. Study was carried out over a period of six months from February 2016 to July 2016. Sample size of 300 cases (150 in each group) was calculated. Collected data was entered in SPSS version 11. Results: Age distribution of the patients was done which shows 55.33%(n=83) in Group-A and 60.67%(n=91) in Group-B between 25-30 years, 44.67%(n=67) in Group-A and 39.33%(n=59) in Group-B were between 31-35 years, 27.4+5.2 in Group-A and 28.1+4.9 were in Group-B, 64%(n=96) in Group-A and 88%(n=58.67) in Group-B were between P0-P2 while 36%(n=54) in Group-A and 41.33%(n=62) were between P3-P5c. comparison of mean pain score post operatively shows mean pain score of 5 in group A and mean pain score of 8 in group B. Comparison of mean postoperative narcotic analgesia requirement reveals 102+18.34(mg) in Group-A while 157+23.6 (mg) in Group-B, p vale was 0.002 i.e. ≤0.05. Conclusion: Comparison of mean narcotic analgesia required in patients undergoing cesarean section with and without bupivacaine infiltration reveals that patients with bupivacaine infiltration had significantly shorter doses of narcotic required analgesia
