Abstract
Thepresentqualitativestudywasplannedtoexamineandcomparethepractic
esofhomeworkinPakistanandEnglandintermsofimportance,similaritiesan
d differences, the amount and type of homework given
topupils,andtheimportanceofparentalinvolvementinPrimaryschoolsofPa
kistanandEngland.Questionnairesandinterviewswereusedasbasic toolsto
collectdatafrom 12primaryschools,theirheadteachers,60teachersand100parentsfromEnglandandPakistanbyconvenien
tsampling.Theanalysisofthedatawaspresentedmainlyinanexplanatorymet
hod.Onlyafewimportantquestionswereanalyzedandpresentedinpercentag
estogetabetterunderstandingofthesituationataglance.Theresultsrevealedt
hatinPakistaneducationismoreofaresponsibilityofchildrenandparentsrath
erthantheschoolsanditsteachers.Astheteachersareunderpressuretocomple
tetherequiredsyllabusbeforetheexaminationssotheygivelotsofhomeworkt
oachievetheirgoals.InEnglandhomeworkisusedjustforpracticeandreinfor
cementofclassworkanditisnotcompulsoryforall.FurtherinPakistanischool
s,majorityoftheparentscomplainedaboutthehomeworkbeingtoomuch,whi
leBritishPakistaniparentsinLondonsuggestedthattheirchildrenshouldbrin
gmorehomeworkfromschools.
