Abstract
Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Ludhyanvi (R.A) was a great mufti and renowed Islamic scholar as well. He served in different fields with his knowledge, research and writing. He had keen command on Hadith, Fiqh and other religious affairs. He gave lessons of “Sahi-Bukhari” (Hadith’s famous book) 20 times continuously. For about 60 years he wrote thousands of edicts,collection of his selected edicts”Ahsan-ul-Fatawa” printed in 10 volumes. He built famous institution of fatwa named “Darul Iftah-wal-Irshad” (Nazimabad) Karachi.Also he has established a well known Islamic University named “Jamiat-ur-Rasheed”(Ahsan Abad) Karachi known as “Kulya-tush-Shariah”.“Jamiat-ur-Rasheed” is a blend of religious and worldly education system,where students are being educated and trained by means of the modern means of teaching that includes the use of computer, internet and projectors etc. It has got the honour to be the one of the best Islamic institute in Pakistan that offers language courses in Arabic and English. Besides other professional courses in Iftah, Islamic Banking, Journalism and Astronomy. This has all been possible because of the endless effort of Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Ludhyanvi (R.A) who was himself a well-known expert in astronomy.His work include formation of a “Calendar comprising of timing of Prayers and Sehr-o-Aftaar. Furthermore, the department of Astrology at the “Jamiat-ur-Rasheed” established by his students in considered to be a well-known institute in Pakistan. In addition to this Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Ludhyanvi (R.A) was also founder of “Islamic Journalism”who got the very first weekly news paper published as “Zarb-e -momin”(urdu\english).His efforts towards Islamic Journalism include publication of newspaper like “Daily Islam” (urdu), monthly magazine such as “Shariah and Business” and “The Truth ” (english) contributed a lot towards the development of Islamic Journalism in Pakistan.Mufti Rasheed Ahmad R.A was died on 20 feb-2002 in Karachi.
