Abstract
Islam provides solutions to all the problems of every age, and its teachings are perfectly applicable to spatio-temporal issues. The universality and flexibility of Islam goes a long way in solving every issue of present time thus no issue remains unsolved. This is due to the Islamic Jurisprudence. The Islamic Jurists rely mainly on Quran and Ḥadīth to find solutions of newly raising problem; this characteristic and process of Islam is known as Ijtihād. A Mujtahid consults the Quran and Sunnah in the light of the principles of Ijtihād. As time progresses, new problems arise which are solved by Islamic Fiqh/ Ijtihād. This becomes a remarkable feature of Islam which makes it stand distinguished from the other religions. In this article the above mentioned contemporary importance of Islamic Jurisprudence will be discussed in the light of Qur'an and Ḥadīth of the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW).
