Abstract
The purpose of the research was to study the operational strategy oflnternational Donor Agencies in the promotion of Elementary Education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The study was focused to identify the donor agencies role in teachers training, infrastructure development, and curriculum material development (textbooks, reading materials etc.) The population of the study was all the international NGOs and donor agencies functioning in the field of education in KP, Pakistan. The researchers selected two donor agencies (UNICEF and UNESCO) among a total of seventeen through convenience sampling technique for the study. It was a mixed method research, therefore, questionnaire and semi structured interview guide were used for the collection of quantitative as well as qualitative data. It was concluded that in the absence of dedicated budgets lines the KP government has remained dependent on international technical expertise and fund. Donor agencies involved in literacy promotion activities are performing their task in the development of infrastructure, provision of basic school facilities as well playing their role in the capacity building of teachers for the promotion of quality ducation. UNICEF has constructed Government Primary School in Id districts of KP the total number of enrolled students in these schools are 469.792. UNESCO constructed about 11 schools for IPDs students in different areas of KP. About 77.8% boys and 22.2% girls have been enrolled in these schools. It is suggested that government and donor agencies must work in partnership to bring about change and expand its mandate and explore its potential responsibilities for the improvement in the education sector in KP.
