Abstract
This study examined the theory of federalism as a cheme of government in different countries of the world. The foremost purpose of this effort is, however, was to anatomize federalism as perceived by diverse political scientists in relation to federalism and the circumstances in which federal systems are functioning in contrast to the original scheme of federalism practiced
by the states in the western world. In the last part, certain suggestions were given as to why federalism could not prosper in some countries of African origin. Primary and secondary sources were used in generating data for this work. Similarly, published and unpublished books and articles were gone through,’ documentaries and other sources were also gone through.
