Abstract
Background:Humanskeletondevelopsfromseparateossificationcentreswhichcontinuetoossifytilltheboneiscompletelyformed.Radiologicaltechniquesareveryreliableandusefulmethodforestimatingtheageofindividualforforensicandcriminalreasonsbyobservingtheseossificationcentres.Externalinspectionforagedeterminationisliabletoerror.ThisstudyisthusaimedtoassessthevariationinageoffusionofischialtuberosityinPakistanipopulation.Methods:Itwasacrosssectionalstudy,whereindatawasretrospectivelycollectedatBahawalpurVictoriaHospital,atertiaryreferralcentreinwhichconsecutivelyselected47femalesand121malesbetween10to24yearsofage,attendingtheoutpatient,referredfromNationalDatabaseandRegistrationAuthorityfortheconfirmationofagewereselected.Results:Therewereatotalof13casesinstageI,98instageII,23instageIIIand34instageIV.InstageIImaximumnumbersofcaseswerebetweentheagesof19–22yearswhereasinstageIVthemaximumnumbersofcaseswerebetween21–24yearsofage.Conclusion:Itisconcludedthattheearliestappearanceofepiphysealcenterinmalesoccurredat12-13yearsandinfemalesat10-11years.Whileearliestcompleteunionwasseenattheageof19–20yearsinfemalesand16–17yearsinmales.Allcasesinagegroupof23–24yearsshowedcompleteunion
