Abstract
Objective: To assess the distribution of Vitamin D3
levels in age and gender groups in a tertiary care
hospital of Nowshera.
Methodology: This cross sectional study was
conducted in the department of pathology, Qazi
Hussain Ahmed Medical Complex, Nowshera from
January 2019 to December 2020. Vitamin D3 was
measured by electro-chemiluminescence
immunoassay. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 and
Chi square test was used to see the association of age
with Vitamin D deficiency.
Results: Out of 62 patients, 22 (35.5%) were males
and 40 (64.5%) females. Mean age was 30 ± 5.2 years.
Median Vitamin D3 level was 11.23 ng/ml. The data
was skewed. It was observed that 70.97% were
Vitamin D3 deficient with level of Vitamin D3 less
than 20 ng/ml. The difference in median of Vitamin
D3 was the same across the gender with (p = 0.929)
and association of age with Vitamin D3 deficiency was
not statistically significant (p = 0.598).
Conclusion: We found that 71% of the study
population had deficient Vitamin D3 level, 12.9% had
insufficient while only 16% had normal Vitamin D3
level.
Keywords: Vitamin D3 Levels, insufficient and
deficient levels, distribution across age.
