Abstract
Khalid Fateh Muhammad's Urdu novel Ishq-i-Bilahaiz is a new creative
contribution regarding partition of 1947. This novel does not directly deal with
the incidents that occurred around partition but it covers the impact and
consequences of partition of the sub-continent Indo-Pak into two independent
and sovereign states. It is the story of two communities, local and immigrants
from India, dealing with the issue of assimilation. It is a narrative of friction
between local Punjabi and migrant Urdu speaking populations. Khalid Fateh
Muhammad has tried to further probe the different attitudes of older and
younger generations from both the communities. The members of older
generations are not ready to assimilate with each other while an Urdu speaking
boy and a Punjabi girl discuss everything and fall in love breaking the frontiers
ethnic biases. This article offers a post-partition analysis of the novel
