Abstract
Urdu poem as a genre emerged under sufi saints in Dakken much earlier than
Urdu Ghazal, since, it was more suitable for preaching. Urdu poem blossomed
greatly in the hands of Iqbal and it became a powerful medium to express the
inner feelings of the heart on a par with Ghazal. Nasir Kazmi, who is regarded
as one of the chief architects of modern Urdu ghazal, began his literary career as
a poet. He was greatly influenced by Akhter Sherani, therefore, his poems are
romantic, magical, idealistic and mystical. , Moreover, just like his poems, his
patriotic songs are also a masterpiece of literature as his selected words are
charged with utmost degree of expression. However, his poems were
overshadowed by his remarkable work in the field of ghazal. His poems can be
judged by the touchstone of both Eastern and Western traditions of poetry. Nasir
was a versatile genius and his creative work other than ghazal needs to be
explored by all of his fans and contemporary critics.
