Abstract
"Self and Sovereignty" individual and community South Asia Islam since 1850 Sang-e-Meel Publications Lahore 2007 is a famous and one of the most debatable books on the history of Sub-continent. She focusses on the political, geographical, religious and cultural facts of the Muslim and Non-Muslim Nations of the Indo-Pak. The Issue of languages urdu and Hindi, the two Nation theory, the division of Bengal and Punjab and the actual facts of the creation of Pakistan are the main aeras debated by Ayesha Jalal with required objectivty, the role of congress, Muslim league and other political parties in the picture of Independence Movement of 1947. Ayesha Jala examines that Jinnah proposed to resovle the contradiction between assertions of a separate Muslim "Nation" and the need for a Strategy which could safe guard the interests of all India Muslims. Ayesh Jala Proved that secularism was the favouite of Quaid-e-Azam for Pakistani People. She appreciates the thoughts of Allama Iqbal but she thinks that Iqbal has the soft corner for Ahamedi Sect." The thoughts of Ayesha Jalal have been critically analysed in this article and this discussion has produced a thought provoking atmosphere for the reader and the research scholar.
