Historicity of the Prophet of Islam: A Critical Study of Robert Spencer’s Views

Orientalists have studied Prophet of Islam from different perspectives. In the recent times they have focused the aspect of historicity of the Prophet of Islam. They or the view that the historicity of Prophet Muhammad should be examined and his real historical status should be re-explored. This paper studies an American polemical writer Robert Spencer’s approach on the subject. It explores that Spencer not only has tried to refute the important historical status of the Prophet of Islam but even strived to negate his existence. It finds that Spencer’s approach on the subject is biased and against even the principles of higher criticism set by the West.
