Even a superficial analysis of Ghalib's poetry reveals that he not only aimed at
expressing unique ideas in poetry, but with his spectacular choice of words,
semantic changes and rare combinations, he was able to add a great deal to his
articulations and to the Urdu language. To achieve this he adopted diverse
techniques like derivations, amalgamation of words, synthesis and coinage.
Each verse of his poetical collection fascinates the reader with his contribution
to the innovation of verse and language. Ghalib's lexical alternations and
morphological word formations are the most outstanding feature of his poetry.
This opened up exciting perspectives not only for his contemporaries but poets
like AltafHussainHali, AllamaIqbal, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and many modern poets
also benefitted from it, which proves Ghalib to be a universal poet.
