Abstract
Haali is considered as the pioneer of Urdu criticism, so most of his fame is associated
with his criticism and comparatively lesser as a poet. Moreover in his poetry, he is
more famous for his nazm and again his ghazal is given comparatively less importance,
rather he is considered to be an opponent of ghazal. But if we study Haali's ghazal,
especially that part which is called Modern style of Haali, it is evident that this part has
numerous characteristics of diction and stylistics which can be considered as foundation
of modern Urdu ghazal. The article is an attempt to analyze Haali's modern ghazal in
this context.
