Abu al Hussain Asakir-ul-din Muslim Bin Hajjaj Bin Ward Bin Koshan Al-Qusheri Al-Nishpuri commonly known as Imam Muslim. Islamic Scholar, particularly known as a Muhaddith. He is one of the leading scholars and memorizers of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) narrations and Hadiths. His Hadith collection known as Sahih Muslim, is one of the six major Hadith collections and is regarded as one of the two most authentic books of Hadith, alongside Sahih al Bukhari. He was born in Nishapur, Abbasid province of Khorasan. Historians differ as to his date of birth, though it is usually given as 202 AH, 204 AH or 206 AH. The nisbah of “al-Qusheri” signifies Muslim’s belonging to the Arab tribe of Banu Qushair. Imam Muslim’s studied under a great deal of scholars of Hadith and narrated ahadith from numberless people. Among the prominent scholars from whom Imam Muslim narrated ahadith were Yahya Bin YahyaNishapuri, Qutaiba Bin Saeed, Ishaq Bin RahuWayh, Ahmad Bin Hanbal, Saaeed Bin Mansoor, Muhammad Bin Ismail Bukhari and Ahmad Bin Younis. Imam Muslim taught Hadith at Nishapur and many of his students later became famous and rose to prominence in the realm of Hadith. Some of his students were; Abu Eesa Muhammad Bin Eesa Al-Tirmizi, Muhammad Bin Ishaq Khuzaima, Abdul-Rehman Bin AbiHatim, Muhammad Bin Abad Bin Hameed, Ibraheem Bin AbiTalab, Ibrahim Bin Muhammad Bin Sufyan, Yahya Bin Saad, Makki Bin Abdan and Muhammad Bin Mukhlid. Besides “Sihih Muslim” he wrote many other books on Hadith and the most important of which are; Al-Tamyyiz, Kitab-ul-Illal, Kitab-ul-Wahdan, Ktab-ul-Afrad, Kitab-ul-Aqran, Kitab-ulMuhazarmeen, Kitab-ul-Tabqat and Kitab-ul-Tareekh.
