Imam Abu Hanifa and Irja: A research study

Abstract
Imam Abu Hanifa has reached such a climax in his academic excellence that it has literally become impossible for others to reach such a position. However, he too has both his admirers and critics. The latter group has made every effort to spread false propaganda against him. One such aspect of the false propaganda and the lies associated to Imam Abu Hanifa, is “Irja” which is spread by a misguided sect called “Murjia”. This research article investigates the allegations level against Imam Abu Hanifa. It proves that the appearance of Imam Abu Hanifa's adopted definition of “Eyman” is similar to the definition of “Murjia”, but Imam Abu Hanifah’s did not have beliefs the same as misguided sect “Murjia”. The scholars who have referred to Imam as “Murjia” are not misguided sectarians, but are said to be from a particular background, just as many other Imams have also been called “Murjia”.
