Abstract
It is a settled fact that the ancient/classical poetry of the sub -continent including Sindh is based on the principles of Chhind Vidya. Doha, Dohero and Bait are the glaring examples of poetry whose roots are lying deeply in the indigenous Art of poetry that’s Chhind Vidya. The art of Chhind Vidya is adopted by all the poets at India and Pakistan since centuries because it is a melodious structure of the poetry and closely relates to the human nature. Notations of Chhind Vidya are of two types: qualitative and are based on a job between the melody and vocal. These notations are both long and short. Long notation is called “Drigh” and short one is said “Lingh”. By notation, here, we mean magnitude, which is changed in the quality. Chhind Vidya is least touched subject in the field of research in the poetry. It is the scientific study of notations which almost all poets adopt while creating poetry. In this article, a detailed discussion is done as far as Chhind Vidya is concerned. Its connection with the poetry and its technicalities are also giving a proper space in this article. Besides, a good enough number of poetic examples is quoted from the classical poetry of Sindh as well as that of modern times so as to highlight the various aspects of the poetic art- Chhind Vidya.
