Abstract
In this study, we have aimed to determine homework assignment preferences of 6th-8thgrade students in science courses in Turkey’s public schools. A mixed design approach was used for this research. Data was collected via both open-ended question and a “Homework Assignment Preference Scale”. The results show that the 6th grade students and the 7th grade students preferred homework assignment that helped them to improve grades. On the other hand, in terms of gender, the female students preferred practice exercises, preparatory homework assignments and sought to improve their homework assignment more than the male students. In addition, we found that the seventh grade students who participated in this research preferred to do an experiment amongst their practice exercises, workbook activities and interesting activities in interactive homework assignment, as well as making a presentation as part of their preparatory homework assignment.
